The unfortunate humidity drop could have easily caused shrink-wrapping, and a brown/yellow membrane is certainly a sign (although not a guaranteed or 100% reliable sign) of shrink-wrapping. You might try giving him (and the others) electrolytes in their water for the first couple days.
